Florence Babin-Beaudry is a Canadian artist and cultural worker based in Montreal. Situated between research and creation, her artistic practice investigates the metaphysical dimension of reality. Through photography, video and sound, she explores the psychic territories related to death and absence, particularly in the context of intimate experiences such as abortion, near-death and altered states of consciousness. Often left unspoken in the social sphere, these events become, in her work, points of entry into a sensory exploration of memory and the unseen. Through visual narratives and soundscapes, she brings to light the subtleties that arise from these intangible spaces.

Her creative process is both experiential and documentary. It draws from life stories collected through interviews, scientific readings, as well as references to spiritual and mystical traditions from various cultures. From this research emerge installations that create a dialogue between the visible and the invisible, the intimate and the universal, the ephemeral and the sacred.

Florence Babin-Beaudry is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Studio Arts Photography at Concordia University. She holds a Bachelor in Film Production from l’Université du Québec à Montréal and a College Degree in Photography. Alongside her artistic practice, she has been working as an art director in the fields of film, performing arts and fashion for over twenty years.
